![]() ![]() Shift Tower: The cast aluminum piece that bolts onto the top of your transmission and its containments. These are used to calibrate the shifter to its “home” position. Shifter Linkages: The plastic pieces that attach to the ends of the cables. It houses all the linkages and parts that make the movements of your hand on the knob move the cables in the correct direction. Shift box: The entire rectangular box part that sits right under your center console. You row this back and forth through the gears. Shift Lever: The metal shaft that the shift knob sits upon. Shift Knob: The thing you hold in your hand when you’re driving I found that most of this info is scattered across multiple threads on multiple sites, so hopefully this takes the work out of finding some solutions to your aging shifter. This should apply to most later (2000+) MKIVs and I believe MKV cars are very similar in design, although not identical. You can swap the valve body in about an hour in your drive way. This thread is intended to be an accumulation of knowledge that I have obtained on my quest for a better feeling shifter in my 2002 Golf TDI. If you look at the cost about 585.00 for TCM harness and remanufactured upgraded valve body it is a whole lot better than an O2J swap. I know guys that screwed with all the other mentioned things and the result was a junk O1M. It really sounds like you should do the valve body swap. With VCDS it makes it simpler because you can monitor the TCM while driving to check solenoid operation and fluid temps. You can do this change with VCDS or using the foot method by turning the key on without starting the engine and depress the accelerator pedal for 5 seconds this will reset the TCM. The Sport mode the TCM actuates the solenoids in the valve body according to your past accelerations and speeds. The difference isn't that dynamic as far as mileage, but I've found the transmission shifts feel smoother and more natural. The TCM doesn't adapt to drivers acceleration habits in economy mode. Use single quotes (') for phrases.ĭynamic or what is referred to Economy mode will give you better mileage. Relearning / Clearing of Transmission Adaptation Tables Is Necessary on most valve bodies.Complete Computerized Testing Of Valve Body on Our Zoom Superflow Valve Body Dyno.Computer Matched and Flow Tested Shift Solenoids.Solenoids Graphically Tested on our Zoom SolX Solenoid Tester.New Custom Machined Solenoid Bushings (where applicable).Rebuilt New Design Shift Solenoids (where applicable).Sonnax Updated Solenoid Modulator Valves (where applicable).Sonnax Updated TCC Valves (where applicable).Sonnax Updated Regulator Valves (where applicable).Sonnax Updated Shift Valves (where applicable). All wear areas are individually vacuum tested for leakage.Threads Checked and Repaired if Needed.Mounting Surface Verified and Flat Filed If Needed.Hand Assembled by Qualified and Caring Professionals!!.Thorough Hand Washed Cleansing Process Removes all metal and clutch particles. Our transmission valve bodies are designed to be installed by a professional automotive technician. The most common of which are: delayed engagements, harsh engagements, flair shifts, delayed shifts, harsh upshifts, harsh downshifts, slippage in gear while driving and trouble Codes associate with gear ratio errors. This transmission valve body assembly fixes and cures the many shifting complaints with a worn out valve body. VW wants $ around $ 4,400 (USD) for a remanufactured unit )possible new valve body?ĭo not jack the pressure up on the )1m (AKA Kerma mod) it does nothing to improve shifting and can make the pressure losses worse and stress already weak seals meaning shorter life. A decent rebuild starts at $ 1595 and goes up to $ 3,650. If you get it rebuildt make sure you know what prts are going into it. ![]() If you get a rebuild you may swap valve bodies several times with the rebuilder to get the transmission working right. This would mean harder more difficult to machine aluminum alloy for valve body and higher tempurature spec seals and O-rings. To make a more durable valve body would require making the valve body and the seals out of better materials. IPT puts may upgrades in the 01M: Notice that the most wear prone part of the transmission, the valve body, is done in much the same way as any other 01M remanufactured valve body. No one can remanufacture a 01M and gurantee that its lifespan will exceed the orginal transmission. ![]()
